Help Restore Hope Through Education
We are committed to bringing great transformation for children living in poverty-stricken, less advantaged communities by supporting them with quality education and the provision of books and accessories necessary to improve their education.
Description
For decades, Sri Lanka’s children, especially in the North, East, and rural regions, have carried the heavy burden of the country’s long civil war (1983–2009) and recurring political and economic instability. Even today, the scars remain visible in many communities.
Why This Project is Important:
- The 26-year conflict destroyed thousands of schools, displaced entire communities, and created a “lost generation” of children who missed years of education. Many schools in the Northern and Eastern provinces were damaged or abandoned, teachers fled, and families faced trauma that still affects learning outcomes today.
- Repeated economic crises and political turmoil have led to reduced government spending on education, teacher shortages, and poor infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote areas. This has widened the gap between urban and rural students, resulting in higher dropout rates, lower English and digital literacy, and limited access to quality learning.
- Children in these regions often study in under-resourced schools with limited books, technology, and qualified teachers. Many face malnutrition, psychological trauma, and economic pressure to leave school early and support their families.
Education is the most powerful tool to break this cycle.
It builds resilience, creates employment opportunities, and promotes long-term peace and reconciliation.
How Community Contributions Make a Real Difference
When communities actively contribute to education, the impact multiplies:
- Parents and local groups become partners in school development, leading to higher attendance and accountability.
- Community involvement helps identify real needs (e.g., school repairs, teacher support, scholarships).
- It fosters ownership, ensuring projects remain sustainable long after external funding ends.
- Stronger education leads to better-skilled youth, improved rural employment, and stronger, more united communities.
We kindly invite you to stand with us in rebuilding Sri Lanka’s future, one child, one school, and one community at a time.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Together, we can turn the painful legacy of war and instability into new opportunities for the next generation.
